Here is your weekly update from Volunteer Aberdeen!

Today we start a new month so why not the take the chance to begin your volunteering journey with some of our recent opportunities from Aberdeen based charities?

This week we highlight volunteer roles from organisations well known in the city for their fantastic community based work; The Breadmaker, Aberdeen Cyrenians and TLC.

There really is no better way to get involved with your community than to give your time and share your skills with your city’s third sector. And if these opportunities don’t suit your interests, don’t worry. There are hundreds more available to browse at volunteeraberdeen.org.uk and on the ACVO site at acvo.org.uk/opportunities/volunteering.

Coffee Shop/Bakery Volunteers

The Breadmaker

The Breadmaker is part of the Aberdeen Day Project – a registered charity, successful social enterprise, artisan bakery and coffee house.

We are seeking volunteers who would like to help in a coffee shop/bakery environment and also volunteer with a team to provide training and support for adults with learning disabilities in a working Coffee shop and Bakery environment.

An exciting and fantastic opportunity to volunteer in an award winning bakery and help make a real difference for people we support as well. Excellent training and support is provided to all volunteers and all help is greatly appreciated.

Organisation aims and objectives

The Breadmaker is part of the Aberdeen Day Project (a registered charity), is an artisan bakery and coffee house. Located in Aberdeen City we are a successful social enterprise who produce and sell a range of quality handcrafted breads and confectionary to wholesale and retail customers alike with the purpose of providing a range of work placements, training and social activities for adults with learning disabilities (apprentices) who can otherwise experience exclusion and isolation in society.

Aberdeen Cyrenians Volunteers

Aberdeen Cyrenians

Give the gift of time, and make a difference.

Aberdeen Cyrenians started life as a soup kitchen run by student volunteers back in 1968. That ethos of volunteering and direct community support remains at the heart of what we do and it is essential in allowing us to provide the range of support that our service users rely on.

We’re fully flexible and can take regular, ad hoc, seasonal and team volunteers across a range of services and opportunities.

Our volunteer roles are as varied as our projects, service users and volunteers, whatever your interest, we’ve got something that’s just right for you. All help makes a real difference and is always appreciated.

Excellent training and support is provided to all volunteers.

Organisation aims and objectives

Aberdeen Cyrenians is a voluntary organisation and one of Scotland’s major charities, which aims to help homeless people by alleviating homelessness, through the provision of support and accommodation. We provide direct services for homeless people, aiming to help them to move forward with their lives. Since 1968, we have provided an increasing range of services for homeless people, and at present, we meet the needs of around 2,000 people each year. In the main, we provide hostel type accommodation, run a drop in centre, help service users in gaining rented accommodation, provide advice, information and emotional support and provide training and access to education and employment opportunities. We welcome and actively encourage the involvement of volunteers in a variety of areas to help us to open the doors wider for homeless people in Aberdeen.

Volunteer Befrienders

TLC – Befriending Service

Everyone can feel lonely and isolated at times, especially if experiencing hardship.

In response to the effects of loneliness and isolation on peoples wellbeing (physical, emotional, social and mental health), that the COVID-19 pandemic exacerbated, TLC have responded to this need and further developed our befriending service to combat the loneliness and isolation felt by many in our city. Our service is provided to anyone aged 18 years and over in Aberdeen who is experiencing or at risk of loneliness or isolation. Your help as a volunteer would therefore make a real difference.

Our expertly trained and compassionate volunteers not only provide a lifeline to people, in the form of friendship, but also a helping hand to reconnect to the community, bringing joy and passion back into people’s lives.

Organisation aims and objectives

At TLC our vision is to see a transformed community where poverty and social isolation are a thing of the past. The TLC Befriending Project provides befriending services for anyone aged 18 and older where our values of Compassion, Purposefulness and Community are central to everything we do.
