Volunteer update April 26th – opportunities from Look Again, Cultivate Aberdeen and Sea Cadets

Here are three recent opportunities from Volunteer Aberdeen to help you make a difference and get involved with your community.

Get involved with the city’s vibrant arts and culture scene by volunteering with Look Again; get outdoors and join a vibrant community of volunteers with Cultivate Aberdeen; or volunteer with Aberdeen Sea Cadets and help inspire local young people.

No matter what your interests, skills, age, experience or availability are, there’s a volunteering opportunity suited to you!

There really is no better way to get involved with your community than to give your time and share your skills with your city’s third sector and community organisations. And, if these opportunities don’t suit your interests, don’t worry. There are hundreds more available to browse at volunteeraberdeen.org.uk and on the ACVO site at acvo.org.uk/opportunities/volunteering

If you have questions about volunteering in Aberdeen or how to involve volunteers with your organisation, contact our Volunteering Services Manager, Mike Melvin at mike.melvin@acvo.org.uk

Look Again Volunteers

Look Again

Look Again hosts a range of events and exhibitions throughout the year all designed to connect, highlight and strengthen the creative sector and community in North East Scotland.

The Look Again team have two spaces in town for showcasing art within an exhibition capacity in Aberdeen. One is named the Look Again Project Space, at 32 St Andrews Street, which we have had for a few years now. The other is at 1-5 George Street and is a recent addition to our cohort. We are looking for volunteers to join us at the weekends to help us with invigilating our exhibitions.

We also have other events such as Art Pints, which are relaxed chit chat nights, which are currently held at the Lemon Tree. These events happen each month and we are also looking for people to greet visitors at the doors and hand out free drink tokens.

If you are interested in helping out, please fill out the volunteer interest form at: https://bit.ly/lookagainvolunteers We have a Whatsapp chat as well where we advertise our volunteer times, which we will add you to if you fill out the form.

A fantastic opportunity to help with the vibrant arts and creative sector in Aberdeen. All help makes a real difference and is greatly appreciated.

Cultivate Aberdeen Volunteers

Cultivate Aberdeen

Cultivate your Community!

Cultivate Aberdeen has a clear vision to create kind, confident, and connected communities through the power of food growing. How that vision manifests means different things to many people, it belongs to our community and it belongs to you; come and join the conversation and food revolution.

For more information and details of how you can get involved as a volunteer with Cultivate Aberdeen please visit cultivateaberdeen.co.uk/get-involved/volunteer/ , email us at: info@cultivateaberdeen.co.uk or telephone: 01224 034591.

We are a volunteer led organisation and therefore you are at the heart of everything we do. Without the generous donations of time, commitment, and experience from individuals across the City and further afield we would not be able to achieve all that we set out to.

There’s something for everyone!

Community Gardener

Our Community Gardeners come from all background with different levels of experience who help develop and maintain our community gardens and other outreach projects. In good weather (and occasionally poor) you get your boots dirty and help dig-in. We’ve plenty of projects launching this year that could do with a hand so why not come along, get your fingers beneath the soil, and support us as a volunteer?

Clean-Up Volunteer

As part of our commitment to creating a kind, confident, and connected community we also want to create a green one. Help us as a Clean-Up Volunteer by reducing and recycling the litter on our streets across Aberdeen. We meet as groups but you could also volunteer to do a solo clean, perfect during lockdown and as an activity whilst on your daily walks. We’ve got the equipment if you’ve got the enthusiasm.

Fundraising Volunteer

As a charity you could help us continue to be sustainable by helping us as a fundraising volunteer. Either help us at our arrange events such as bag-packing, holding a stand, selling raffle tickets and cakes, or jump into the fundraising driving seat and help us plan an event from balls or quizzes. If you have an idea or want to be a Fundraising Volunteer then get in touch!

Digital Volunteer

The world has changed, we’ve become digital! So whilst working from home or stuck inside you could help us spread our message further afield and to a bigger audience by creating dynamic and engaging contact online and encouraging others to get involved with our many projects. Our digital volunteers help from creating posts, responding to queries, or testing new online content and promoting to their own networks. Have an idea, get in contact and volunteer.

Student Volunteering

We have a fabulous, and ever growing, student population in Aberdeen and your enthusiasm, experience, and commitment helps us move forward towards achieving our goal. Consider getting in touch and volunteering as a society, group, or individual. If you are looking for interning experience please contact info@cultivateaberdeen.co.uk.

Corporate Volunteering

Whether your team want to fundraise for us or donate their time and skills there are many ways to put your staff right at the heart of what we do and make a real difference to communities in Aberdeen. There are many fun ways to be involved, from team challenges to a wide-range of volunteering opportunities and everything in between. If you want to learn more please contact our team here.

Volunteer with Sea Cadets Aberdeen

Sea Cadets Aberdeen

Sea Cadets Aberdeen is looking for volunteers to join their team. Becoming a volunteer will provide you with the opportunity to give local young people the best possible start in life.

To find out what life as a Sea Cadet Volunteer is like you can attend either of the events below:

  • Presentation Evening: Wednesday 10th May from 1930 to 2130.
  • Unit Open Night: Thursday 18th May from 1930 to 2100.

To register for these events please contact the unit:

What can you expect from Sea Cadets? Well, it’s different from school. There’s a lot of learning. But it’s done safely through activities – on and off the water. Young people also get comfortable with meeting others from different places and backgrounds, and confident in dealing with new situations. The friendly, trained volunteers are role models for cadets, looking out for them. Many teenagers and volunteers say Sea Cadets feels like a second family.
