Gathimba Edwards Foundation Safari Series raises over £5k for Kenyan Children

North East based charity, Gathimba Edwards Foundation (GEF), is delighted to announce the success of its annual Safari Series of races, licensed by Scottish Athletics, which saw runners from across the region compete over three different distances.

A total of £5,287 was raised across three races thanks to the generosity and support of sponsors. Salus Technical sponsored the Hazlehead races, MDT International sponsored Mel’s Mile as part of Celebrate Aberdeen and Prime Four Business Park supported the Prime Four races.

This year’s races saw participation of 18 enthusiastic Metro Junior Runners, who collectively raised an impressive £421. The Metro Junior Runners are known for their annual fundraising efforts, which go towards supporting a child in Kenya. The funds raised during the Safari Series will contribute to school fees for Kenyan children and upcoming house building projects currently in the planning phase.

“We are overwhelmed by the support we received for the Safari Series, and we wish to thank our sponsors and the local community for making this event a tremendous success. GEF would also like to express a huge thanks to Celebrate Aberdeen for including our Mel’s Mile race for the 2nd year. It means a lot to be part of this major city event,” said GEF Co-Founder, Myles Edwards.

GEF is excited to announce that plans for the 2024 series are already in the works, with race dates set to be confirmed soon.

With numerous projects across Kenya, Gathimba Edwards Foundation aims to help disadvantaged children get a start in life, whether it be support through shelter, clothing, education or sustainable food solutions and giving them the opportunity to not only live their lives as children but also to develop as adults.
