Citymoves Dance Agency: Dance for Parkinson’s

Communities Mental Health & Wellbeing Fund

November 2022

Citymoves Dance Agency provide dance classes for all ages and abilities within the local area. Citymoves saw the negative effect social isolation was having on people living with Parkinson’s during the pandemic so sought funding to increase the reach of their Dance for Parkinson’s sessions within the local area in order to provide the opportunity to bring people together to connect once again.

Dance for Parkinson’s is a national programme running throughout Scotland, initiated by Scottish Ballet and Dance Base. All tutors receive training specific to working with those living with Parkinson’s. This year, thanks to the Communities Mental Health and Wellbeing Fund, Citymoves were able to not only fund the class in their studio but also an additional class in the community to reach more participants and their carers in Aberdeen City.

The sessions in Aberdeen provide a regular space for people with Parkinson’s, as well as their family members and carers, to connect in a welcoming, safe and inclusive space and benefit from the positive physical and mental benefits of dance.
