The pandemic has had a dramatic impact on the mental wellbeing of our athletes and sadly some of have still not returned to training. In attempt to tackle this we are looking at ways that we can help the athletes feel part of a team again and provide activities that will supplement the strong focus we already have on being healthy and active, together with social and personal development. We are also determined to encourage new athletes with learning disabilities to join us. Being part of the team and travelling to regional competitions and has enabled our athletes to acquire new life and social skills, made them feel included in part of the wider learning disabled. Funding will enable them to participate in 3 regional competitions and 2 snowdome training days. The mental wellbeing benefits are significant - it gives them something to look forward, enables them to form friendships, strengthens confidence and independence.
