There is a body of evidence that exists to support the mental and physical benefits of people coming together to grow their own food either at home or in shared community spaces. Even when growing at home, there is a sharing in the family as well as with neighbours. There has been a significant increase in the number of community growing spaces over the past 12 months in the city and this has created demand for more seeds and growing materials including trays, pots etc. The grant will provide seeds and seed potatoes to our community and provide support through our online platforms as well as hosting give away days where we will provide short demonstrations on planting. We would also like to target sessions directly in communities where we can share are experience in planting, garden maintenance and harvesting of produce. One Seed Forward believes this will continue to support people in Aberdeen on their journey to eating fresh, local produce and healthy fruit and vegetables.
