This grant will enable us to continue to run free inclusive football sessions in the community. We were fortunate to receive a Community Mental Health and Wellbeing Fund grant in 2021 which allowed us to develop our support for adults, particularly men who were at risk of mental health issues and suicide. We want to be able to continue delivering the same level of support for them, bringing people together in a safe space. We want to delivery 4 weekly football drop-in sessions open to everyone but specifically targeted at adults who are at risk of having poor mental health, including those experiencing poverty, refugees, those with problem substance use issues and those experiencing trauma. These sessions will include 2 walking football sessions to ensure our support is accessible to people of all levels.
Our football drop-in sessions provide free, inclusive physical activity, group support and access to 1-2-1 support that is trauma-informed. This funding will support 350 people in Aberdeen to improve their mental health and wellbeing.
