The funding is to continue the operation of the TAMS growing space. In the past year TAMS has built on the remarkable progress already made in developing an overgrown plot into a productive, enjoyable and nature friendly market garden. Volunteers have completed a cold frame, wooden gazebo with water harvest system, a wildlife pond, an orchard and cultivated no-dig beds. So far in 2023 we have harvested 250kg worth of fruit and veg. Most was sold at reasonable cost to the community at our market stalls, with some given to volunteers and some donated to local foodbanks. Our activities will include: Monthly community events, such as gardening workshops and family friendly nature events; Weekly volunteer sessions for garden maintenance and for basic gardening, to give opportunity for people to try growing things for themselves and build confidence; Continued collaboration with other community groups to use the space: for example, nature classes; An annual celebration to recognise and encourage our team together; An outdoor cooking demonstration; The grant will cover staff costs for a volunteer coordinator and garden tutor; Garden equipment including timber, compost, plants, tools and crop protection; Volunteer expenses and refreshments; Transport.
