Volunteer update June 7th – opportunities from CFINE, Dyce & Stoneywood Community Association and St Andrew’s First Aid

After a fantastic Volunteers’ Week 2023, here are three of the latest opportunities from Volunteer Aberdeen to help you make a difference and get more involved with your community.

Join in and help with the Tullos Community Garden Project with three exciting roles from CFINE; become a group activity and exercise class leader as part of Dyce & Stoneywood Community Association’s community centre programme; or engage and help educate lifesaving skills in your local community as part of St Andrew’s First Aid.

No matter what your interests, skills, age, experience or availability are, there’s a volunteering opportunity suited to you!

There really is no better way to get involved with your community than to give your time and share your skills with your city’s third sector and community organisations. And, if these opportunities don’t suit your interests, don’t worry. There are hundreds more available to browse at volunteeraberdeen.org.uk and on the ACVO site at acvo.org.uk/opportunities/volunteering

If you have questions about volunteering in Aberdeen or how to involve volunteers with your organisation, contact our Volunteering Services Manager, Mike Melvin at mike.melvin@acvo.org.uk

Community Engagement Facilitator

St Andrew's First Aid

Being a Community Facilitator is all about delivering a variety of lifesaving first aid skills in community engagement workshops and projects, within local communities, and primary and secondary schools. A lot of these projects involve talking about and demonstrating the basics of first aid to community groups that can include children, young people, and vulnerable adults.

An example of events you could be delivering a first aid talk and demo to, are primary and secondary schools, small university groups, local community groups, charities, summer fairs, shopping centres. Some of the skills you could be teaching include how to provide CPR and apply a defib, different bandages and how to use them, and basic information on various health conditions. Not only that but all the training needed is provided by St Andrew’s First Aid at no cost to you!

For more information please contact Naomi Sutton, Community Engagement Officer at email naomi.sutton@standrewsfirstaid.org.uk or telephone 0141 332 4031 Ext: 2274.
