Youth Development Worker (28 hours per week) — Fersands & Fountain SCIO

Fersands & Fountain SCIO is looking for an enthusiastic and committed Youth Development Worker to lead high quality youth and community learning opportunities for young people aged 12–25. This is a rewarding role at the heart of a vibrant community, supporting young people’s wellbeing, confidence, and participation while contributing to wider community development.
About the Role
You’ll plan and deliver a varied programme of youth work, wellbeing activities, and learning opportunities that reflect CLD values of participation, empowerment, inclusion, and progression. You’ll build strong relationships with young people, including those facing barriers, and support them to shape local decision making and community activity.
The role includes supervising part time youth work staff, developing partnerships with schools and local services, contributing to funding applications, and supporting wider community events and initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
• Plan and deliver engaging youth and community learning programmes for ages 12–25.
• Build positive, supportive relationships with young people, including those experiencing vulnerability.
• Lead targeted interventions and small group work.
• Supervise, support, and develop part time youth work staff.
• Coordinate rotas, session plans, and quality assurance processes.
• Build partnerships with schools, CLD teams, police, health services, and community organisations.
• Maintain accurate monitoring, evaluation, and reporting systems.
• Contribute to funding applications and resource planning.
• Support community events, seasonal programmes, and cross project initiatives.
Person Specification
Essential:
• Experience working with young people or in community learning settings.
• Experience supervising or managing staff.
• Strong communication and relationship building skills.
• Ability to plan, organise, and evaluate work.
• Commitment to inclusion, empowerment, and community development.
• Ability to work evenings and occasional weekends.
Desirable:
• Qualification in Community Work, Education, Social Work, Health, or related discipline (G12).
• Experience with funding applications, partnership working, targeted interventions, or CLD frameworks.
• Project management skills.
• Additional interests or skills that enhance youth programmes (arts, sports, outdoor learning, wellbeing).
• Driving licence / minibus licence.
Hours & Working Pattern
28 hours per week
• Term time: flexible between 1pm–9pm, Monday to Friday
• School holidays: daytime hours, Monday to Friday
• Occasional weekend work/ residential overnight breaks ( 2 per year)
Salary
• Unqualified (G11): £24,563–£27,737 (4 point scale-28hrs)
• Qualified (G12): £27,751–£31,406 (4 point scale-28hrs)
