Volunteers’ Week 2024 – 40th Anniversary

ACVO TSI celebrates the 40th anniversary of Volunteers’ Week 2024!

Over 7,000 people visited The Big Help Out Volunteer Fayre last year at The Trinity Centre, Aberdeen.

2024 marks the 40th year of Volunteers’ Week, taking place 3rd – 9th June, where we will join thousands of charities and voluntary organisations recognising the contribution volunteers make across the UK.

As well as a crucial opportunity to thank volunteers and recognise the value of their time, passion and skills, Volunteers’ Week also acts as a chance to inspire others to give volunteering a go.

Many will take part in awards ceremonies, coffee mornings and days out during the week. Festivities will then culminate with ‘The Big Help Out’, aimed at encouraging even more people to become part of the volunteering community.

For this years’ Volunteers’ Week, ACVO will be celebrating the tens of thousands of volunteers across Aberdeen City who contribute invaluable time to their communities, a collective total of over 4.4 million hours of help every year.

ACVO’s Volunteering Services Manager, Mike Melvin said:

“Volunteers’ Week is always a top highlight of the year. It is the perfect time to say thank you to all the amazing volunteers in Aberdeen and across the country who provide so much help, support and make such a positive difference for people and communities.”

“It is especially exciting this year with it being the 40th anniversary of Volunteers’ Week. Along with all the tremendous volunteer involving organisations in Aberdeen, ACVO is delighted to join in national Volunteers’ Week and say a huge thank you to all volunteers in our fantastic city for all you do. Here’s to a great 40th Volunteers’ Week.”

Volunteer Scotland Chief Executive, Alan Stevenson says: “Volunteers are the lifeblood of Scottish communities and what better time to recognise the diversity of our volunteers and celebrate the difference that volunteering makes in Scotland and across the UK than the 40th Anniversary of Volunteers’ Week!

“This year, we’re celebrating in style with a revamped brand and new ways to get involved. It has a fresh look but a consistent message—join us and let’s celebrate volunteers and volunteering this Volunteers’ Week.”
