The September edition of ACVO News is out now!

Here we are in September with another jam packed edition of ACVO News, with all the latest news, updates and opportunities from and for Aberdeen’s third sector!

This month we bring you thoughts and reflections from the team at Aberdeen in Recovery as they mark International Overdose Awareness Day 2024 with a focus on raising awareness over the importance of Naloxone in saving lives. It was really interesting meeting with team members and volunteers and their passion for their work, as well as their drive to break the stigma over addiction and overdose, is clear. Together we really can save lives and work to end overdose deaths in Scotland, find out more in our feature article and get it touch with AIR to see how you can make a difference and help #EndOverdose.

We have also been out and about seeing first hand the huge impact support from the Just Transition PB is having in Aberdeen and are pleased to be able to share with you our new short film produced with Asylum and Refugee Care (AARC). The Aberdeen based organisation received funds to purchase a minibus following the JTPB Fund public vote last year. Watch our film and read our feature article to discover how the minibus has facilitated volunteering opportunities for New Scots, enabling integration and reducing social isolation all while making a difference in Aberdeen’s local communities.

Elsewhere we have the exciting news that both The Communities Mental Health & Wellbeing Fund and the Community & Coast Fund will be open for applications this month; news that our very own Mike Melvin has received the first-ever Denis Law RGUplus honorary award for his services to the cause of volunteering in Aberdeen city; and all our usual interesting updates and ways you can get involved with your community and make a difference in Aberdeen.

These are your updates and this is your news.

We are always on the lookout for stories and features – if something is happening in Aberdeen you think we should know about you can get in touch with ACVO’s Communication Officer Andrew at andrew.davidson@acvo.org.uk or ACVO’s Digital Media Assistant Emily at emily.shepherd@acvo.org.uk so we can highlight your work.
