September was a time for the ACVO Team to celebrate as we marked Sandy Mathers’ 20 year work anniversary! Saying that Sandy, our Development Officer, is a well known face in the third sector in Aberdeen is a bit of an understatement.  Many of you reading this will know him personally or have benefitted from his help in setting up your organisation, or ensuring your governance is sound, over the past two decades. As our Chief Exec, Maggie Hepburn, said “An organisation is only as good as the people in it, and ACVO are very lucky to have had Sandy’s wealth of knowledge and experience all of these years”. And we all couldn’t agree more. Read more on page 4!

We also bring you a closer look at GREC’s Language Cafe and the incredible work they are doing to support integration for New Scots in the city. Emily went along to meet the GREC team and see the work first hand, find out more on page 26!

Elsewhere we have the exciting news that we have two funds open for applications during October!

Year 4 of the Communities Mental Health & Wellbeing Fund with grants of up to £15,000 available. Unlike last year, where funds were allocated on a first come first served basis, we have a closing date with the assessment process taking place after that – get your applications in by 12noon November 7th.

The Community & Coast Fund is also open with £100,000 to support projects in the Torry and Cove areas of Aberdeen. Grants of up to £10,000 are available with awardees decided on later in the year via a public vote. Read more about both funds on page 6.

These are your updates and this is your news.

We are always on the lookout for stories and features – if something is happening in Aberdeen you think we should know about you can get in touch with ACVO’s Communication Officer Andrew at andrew.davidson@acvo.org.uk or ACVO’s Digital Media Assistant Emily at emily.shepherd@acvo.org.uk so we can highlight your work.
