Aberdeen family support charity, Home-Start Aberdeen, has announced the relocation and expansion of its well-loved George Street charity shop, marking an exciting new chapter for the organisation and the families it supports.
The new premises, previously the Santander Bank, are just a few doors along from the current location. This new venue will offer a significantly larger and more versatile space, enabling the charity to build on the success of its original shop while creating a new hub for families and the wider community.
For over 10 years, the Home-Start shop on George Street has played a vital role in both generating income and raising awareness for HomeโStart Aberdeenโs services. Itโs where shoppers have found countless treasures, supported the circular economy and helped the charity provide affordable essentials for families navigating the cost of living.
As well as continuing to offer a wide selection of affordable, high-quality pre-loved items from clothing and homeware to toys and baby equipment, the new space will introduce enhanced features such as family-friendly shopping facilities, spaces for inโshop support and an increase in items for kids and babies.
โThis expansion means more than just a new shop front,โ said Cameron McCready, Chief Executive of Home-Start Aberdeen. โItโs about creating a welcoming, inclusive space that strengthens our connection with the community, offers even greater support to families, and continues to generate much-needed income for our services. Weโre proud to operate a shop in the city centre that does good for the community economically, socially, and environmentally. It supports our mission and customers alike.โ
For over 30 years, Home-Start Aberdeen has provided practical and emotional support to local families with young children, helping to prevent family crisis and breakdown. Through trained home-visiting volunteers, the charity offers early intervention and tailored support during some of the most challenging times in a familyโs life.
The team is now calling on local businesses, tradespeople, and volunteers to lend their support in the coming weeks as they prepare to move and fit out the new shop.
โWe would love to hear from anyone who can help us make this move a success, whether itโs transporting donations, helping with joinery or setup, or simply sparing a few hours to get the new space ready,โ added Cameron. โThis is a fantastic opportunity to get involved in something that has a real and lasting impact on families in Aberdeen.โ
Home-Start Aberdeenโs existing George Street shop will remain open until the move is completed, with a formal opening date for the new shop to be announced soon.
