The ACVO team is delighted to bring you the April edition of ACVO News, packed with the latest updates and stories from Aberdeen’s third sector!
A huge thank you to everyone who joined us at yesterday’s ‘Your Place, Your Plans, Your Future’ Third Sector Engagement Event at Aberdeen Arts Centre. It was fantastic to see so many of you there – check out pages 4 & 5 to spot yourself in our event photos!
This month, we feature inspiring stories from local people and organisations making a real impact in Aberdeen’s communities. Alan Johnstone, a volunteer with Aberdeen Art Gallery, Archives and Museums (AAGM), shares how he’s bringing the city’s social history to life through hands-on heritage sessions. We also meet volunteers at Instant Neighbour to explore how giving back benefits both individuals and the wider community.
In other news, Myles Edwards talks about the recent rebrand of the Gathimba Edwards Foundation to GEF, aligning their work in Kenya and the North East. We also learn how Aberlour Futures is strengthening the local childcare workforce in line with The Promise.
Elsewhere, nominations are now open for The Angela Joss ‘Bee You’ Memorial Award 2025. We also highlight the launch of Mental Health Aberdeen’s new mental health service resource map and celebrate Diversity Bridge SCIO being named Inspirational Charitable Organisation of the Year at the 2025 Mental Health & Wellbeing Awards.
This is your news, your stories – let’s share them together! If there’s something happening in Aberdeen that we should feature, get in touch with ACVO’s Communication Officer, Andrew, at andrew.davidson@acvo.org.uk or Digital Media Assistant, Emily, at emily.shepherd@acvo.org.uk. We’d love to hear from you!
