We are delighted to launch the latest ACVO News, the final edition of 2025! The monthly magazine showcases the work, achievements and opportunities across Aberdeen’s third sector.

In this month’s edition, we bring you an inspiring feature from the man behind Miles of Smiles, Marius Coste. The Aberdeen father, runner and fundraiser has embarked on his latest challenge raising money for SAMH and Clan Cancer Support. We sit down with Marius as he shares his personal story behind Miles of Smiles, and how the people of Aberdeen keep him motivated to run a total of 7,000 kilometres in full costume by December 2026.

We are also excited to share that the Just Transition PB Fund public vote is now live! Residents of Aberdeen can choose their top 5 favourite eco friendly projects in order to receive their desired funding. From community garden enhancements and sustainable electric vehicles, to solar panel installation and circular economy initiatives, take a look at the projects and vote now at www.jtpbfund.scot by Monday 8th December 5pm!

Finally, we share the latest Team ACVO updates: a look back at this years’ AGM, Mike Melvin shares his final volunteer update of 2025 and Maggie Hepburn reflects on a year of collaboration, progress and collective impact as we prepare for 2026.

Other highlights from December’s ACVO News include:

  • Local charities Aberdeen Independent MS, Grampian Hospital Radio and The Russell Anderson Foundation have been awarded the prestigious King’s Award for Voluntary Service, the UK’s highest accolade for volunteer led groups.
  • Home-Start Aberdeen cut the ribbon and officially open their brand new charity shop premises on 93-99 George Street, Aberdeen.
  • Festive news from the third sector, including: Befriend a Child’s Giving Tree Appeal, Aberdeen Foyer’s Christmas Campaign, TechFest’s 24 Days of STEM – Advent Calendar online initiative and Clan’s Christmas Tree collections service.
