North East Riders Volunteers Scotland SCIO

Our mission is to deliver urgent medical samples, equipment and supplies between hospitals, healthcare sites and laboratories in the North East of Scotland when Healthcare Providers’ own transport services do not operate.

In common with other Blood Bike groups nationwide, NERVS was formed with the objective of providing a free transportation service to the Health Service.

Live operations began in May 2018 and we now provide transportation of medical samples and treatments, medical equipment  (such as will fit on a bike, or even a car), donated breast milk and files for free to the NHS.

NERVS is affiliated to the Nationwide Association of Blood Bikes (NABB).  NABB states that they “consist of independent Blood Bike Group Charities who work with their local hospitals, Air Ambulance services, and other NHS sites transporting medication, medical equipment, X-rays, scans, samples and human donor milk”.

NERVS provides a free courier service from 9am to 10pm weekdays, and from 9am to 6pm at weekends.

How Does The Service Operate

  • Hospital requests the service by calling NERVS telephone number

  • One of our volunteer Controllers takes the call and agrees service required

  • Controller allocates Rider (or driver dependant on weather)

  • Rider collects/delivers consignment

  • Controller closes out call.
