JTPB Fund Year 2: Asylum & Refugee Care (AARC)
Just Transition PB Fund
August 2024
When Jayne Smith founded Asylum and Refugee Care (AARC) in Aberdeen, she was unsure about applying for the Scottish Government’s Just Transition Participatory Budgeting (JTPB) Fund. But after a successful bid in 2023, AARC acquired an electric minibus, transforming how they support New Scots with essentials, community integration, and volunteering opportunities. The minibus enabled AARC to expand its programmes, allowing volunteers to help complete significant projects across Aberdeen, including a partnership with FRESH Community Wellness.
The community’s support for AARC has been strong, with local organisations and residents backing their mission. Jayne now urges other groups to apply for the JTPB Fund, emphasising that even small organisations can make a lasting impact with the right resources.
