Advocacy Service Aberdeen (ASA) is a third sector agency providing an independent advocacy service for people who use health and social care services in Aberdeen City.  Advocacy helps people speak up about things that are important to them and to have more control over their lives and to have a greater say in decision making and the services they receive.

We are seeking to employ a Domestic Abuse Advocacy Worker

PART TIME (25 hours) funding until June 2030

Salary up to £25,273 (FTE) £18,052 (PRO-RATA)

The successful candidate will provide an independent advocacy service to people who have become victims of domestic abuse, support individuals and families to understand their rights and express their views related to domestic abuse situations which affect their life.

Duties include:

– To act as an independent advocate for victims of domestic abuse.

– To promote and publicise independent advocacy for victims of domestic abuse.

– To work alongside people so they can work collaboratively with professionals to plan and manage safety plans.

– To manage a caseload effectively including three emails inboxes and several databases

– To support victims of domestic abuse within various decision-making forums, particularly MARACs and to provide IDAA cover for the Coordinator.

– To maintain accurate records and report on a regular basis to the Domestic Abuse Advocacy Coordinator and to attend relevant meetings when required.

– To work in partnership with victims of domestic abuse and undertake risk assessments and complete safety planning with victims and their children.

– To contribute to the monitoring and evaluation of the service as required by the Manager and Board of Directors.

– To network with other organisations as appropriate to share relevant information and skills.

– To work at all times to uphold and apply the Scottish Independent Advocacy Alliance’s (SIAA) Principles and Standards and comply with all ASA’s policies and procedures.

Excellent communication skills are essential, as well as a commitment to equal opportunities and to the empowerment of individuals and groups. Applicants must be non-judgemental and able to empathise with the experiences of others.  Knowledge of health and social care and domestic abuse support services is essential, and an awareness of court processes, local service providers and voluntary organisations would be an advantage. Willingness to complete Safe Lives IDAA training is essential. The ability to drive and having access to a car is beneficial but not essential.  This is a fixed-term contract with the post currently funded by The National Lottery until June 2030.
