Relaxation therapy project for parents with children with additional needs
About the project
The charity was registered in June 2020 during the Pandemic. Parents within the Aberdeen BAME community really suffered mentally and emotionally due to stress of continual caring for their children with disability. In accordance with the charity objectives, the adults in these groups are going to be supported with free relaxation sessions for adults and their children with additional needs. This is in form dance therapy, art therapy, music, and meditation. The activities would be supported by 6 volunteers on a rotational basis. Relaxation therapy is not just to relax and play but also helps to reduce the level of stress caused by everyday caring activities. It promotes soundness of mind thereby reducing anxiety, panic attacks and insomnia which is quite common among parents caring for children with additional needs. Hence these activities will promote positive mental health and help tackle isolation by building a lasting relationship when they meet other adults in similar situations.
