Piper Sandler’s Sportschallenge invites applications from charities for its 10th anniversary

Local charities are being invited to apply to become beneficiaries of Sportschallenge, which will celebrate its 10th anniversary this year on 12th of September.

The North-east’s premier, sports-themed corporate fundraising dinner, which is sponsored by Piper Sandler with support from CNR International, has raised more than £800,000 for various North-east charities over its nine previous events.

Applications from charities themselves or nominations from businesses and individuals can be submitted by filling out an online form on or before the deadline of 1st of April 2024.

Nick Dalgarno, a trustee of Sportschallenge and managing director of Piper Sandler, said: “Last year’s record-breaking event raised more than £110,000 for five charities. Since the inception of the event, we have been committed to supporting a diverse range of worthy, local causes.

“The Trustees have the incredibly difficult task of selecting the charities who will benefit but we still want to hear from as broad a range as possible to see where the money we raise can be put to best use.

“To mark our 10th event, this year’s Sportschallenge will be our biggest and best yet. As the North-east’s ultimate corporate sports-themed event, Sportschallenge provides a highly entertaining evening in a fun but competitive environment. No matter who comes out on top in the quiz, the real winners are our beneficiaries, and we’re proud to have donated £800,000 to 21 charities who provide essential services and support to individuals and communities across the North-east of Scotland.”

Funds raised at this year’s Sportschallenge will be split between the chosen charities, and its long-term beneficiaries – Maggie’s Aberdeen and Children’s Aid (Scotland).

Richard Stewart, centre fundraising manager at Maggie’s Aberdeen, said: “As a long-term beneficiary of Sportschallenge, Maggie’s Aberdeen is excited to be part of the prestigious 10th-anniversary event. The commitment of Piper Sandler and the Sportschallenge team in making a positive impact on the local community is something to celebrate.

“Over the years, the funds we have received from the event have made a huge difference to our work to support local people living with cancer and those that love them. I encourage local charities to apply to be considered as beneficiaries, and anyone to nominate a charity. It’s always a fun night, and one Maggie’s is proud to be associated with.”

Sportschallenge is a popular highlight in the North-east’s social calendar which brings together teams from businesses across the region to compete in a Question of Sport-style quiz in a bid to lift the coveted Sportschallenge Trophy.

Previous events have been hosted by famous faces from the sporting world, including former footballers and sports personalities Alan McInally, Charlie Nicholas and Ally McCoist. This year’s event hosts will be announced shortly.

The 10th Sportschallenge will be held at Aberdeen’s P&J Live on Thursday, 12th of September. Table bookings are open for the event, with a limited number of sponsorship opportunities also still available.
