This month, we spotlight TechFest’s STEM In The Pipeline programme, marking its special 20th anniversary. Yashka Smith, Deputy Managing Director, and industry mentors Alex, Lucy and Karen share how they encourage senior school students to take on real-world energy and technical challenges. The programme helps pupils build key skills, gain confidence and connect school subjects to practical industry experiences with the help of dedicated volunteer mentors.

Vikki Carpenter, Development Officer, shares information about the CLD Standards Council Scotland. The organisation acts as the national Professional Standards and Registration Body for Community Learning and Development (CLD), ensuring that both volunteers and paid practitioners are given the same opportunities to connect, learn and grow.

In our latest Why I Volunteer in Aberdeen films, volunteers from Childline explain what inspired them to get involved, what volunteering means to them and the difference they believe giving time can make. Stewart, Margaret and Jon, volunteer counsellors at the Aberdeen base, provide a safe, confidential space to support children and young people, encouraging anyone who is a good listener to give their time and make a difference too.

Finally, ACVO was delighted to host the recent Lord Provost Volunteering Certificate Awards Ceremony held at the Aberdeen Town House. The special Civic Reception celebrated the extraordinary efforts of both individuals and teams of volunteers. A highlight of the evening was the premiere of three films highlighting a selection of awarded volunteers – watch them now in this edition!

Other highlights from November’s ACVO News include:

  • The eight winners from the 2026 Celebrate Aberdeen Awards are officially announced, recognising outstanding community contributions across the city.
  • Touch of Love Outreach are named Community Organisation of the Year at The Black Scottish Awards 2026 for their extraordinary local impact.
  • This Mouth Cancer Action Month, Clan Cancer Support and NHS teams work together across the region to raise vital public awareness.

We hope you enjoy this month’s edition and, as always, thank you for everything you do to support communities across Aberdeen.
