In our latest ACVO film, we showcase Clan Cancer Support’s walking group – an opportunity for people impacted by cancer to get outdoors, socialise and benefit from peer support. Walk Leaders Alan and Kenny share their impactful experience as volunteers, whilst Archie reflects on the support, friendship and sense of community he has found as a walk participant. The walking group is a place where people can give something back, make new friends and discover that a simple Monday morning walk can make a meaningful difference.
We’re also pleased to share our short film featuring volunteers Lawrence and Helen at Danestone Community Centre’s Brunch Club. Every Tuesday, the married couple play their part in making the Brunch Club a welcoming place to meet, catch up with friends and enjoy each other’s company.
We also bring you the latest Why I Volunteer in Aberdeen feature, focusing on GREC and their counselling services. We highlight volunteer counsellor David who helps provide a safe space where people can be heard, understood and supported as they navigate life in a new country. He also shares what volunteering at GREC has meant to him and why he would encourage others to get involved.

- Somah Shepherd receives the 2026 Angela Joss Memorial Award at shmu’s annual awards ceremony in recognition of her outstanding contribution to the local community.
