About this fund

We help individuals, small community groups and small local charities.

We are open for group applications in January, April, July and October.

You can apply for an individual at any time.

It takes us up to two months to process an application.

What qualifies for our help and funding

We help people and groups based in England, Scotland, Wales and Jersey.

Our funding focus is about connecting or re-connecting older people, and adults with disabilities or mental health conditions, with others in their local community.

We help individuals, but please note that all applications for named individuals must be completed by a professional who is supporting the individual.

We also help small community groups and small local charities. We will examine your accounts, and in particular your balance sheet. As a guideline, it is very unlikely that we would be able to help if you have financial reserves over £200,000.

We help groups with:

  • Activity projects
  • Equipment/materials for use by members
  • Transport costs to enable members to attend
  • Day trips, outings or UK group holidays

Our grants for groups range from £100 up to £2,600.

It takes us up to 10 weeks to process an application.

Grants will not be made to groups and charities for:

  • Core/running costs, including salaries and venue hire
  • Indirect services such as helplines, websites, newsletters, leaflets or research
  • Building/renovation projects or large capital projects
  • Training of staff and training of volunteers
  • Foodbank provision, unless part of a food preparation or activity project
  • Activities for residents in a care home operated by Barchester Healthcare or by any other care home company
  • Retrospective funding (void if already purchased or taken place)
  • Repeat funding within our three-year exclusion policy (following a successful grant award)

We help individuals with:

  • Manual and powered wheelchairs
  • Mobility scooters
  • Specialised trikes / adaptive bikes
  • Car adaptations

Our grants for individuals range from £100 up to £1,500.

It takes us up to 10 weeks to process an application.

Grants will not be made to named individuals for:

  • Disability and exercise equipment for use in the home, including specialist chairs and beds
  • Mobility equipment for indoor use only
  • Repairs, maintenance and refurbishment of mobility equipment
  • Bikes and e-bikes
  • Activities, holidays and special days out
  • Educational courses
  • Home improvements, adaptations and property repairs, including gardens and ramps
  • Household items, such as white goods, furniture and carpeting
  • Medical or dental treatment, including any type of therapy, counselling or rehabilitation
  • Cars, driving lessons or removal costs
  • Laptops, computers and iPads
  • Daily living costs (e.g. rent, utility bills, clothing, mobile phones, travel costs) or repayment of debts
  • Equipment for residents in a care home operated by Barchester Healthcare or by any other care home company
  • Retrospective funding (void if already purchased or taken place)
  • Repeat funding within our three-year exclusion policy (following a successful grant award)
  • We reserve the right to put a cap on grants to a single charity (including all of its branches) in any one year

Looking for support with funding?

Identifying funding opportunities and writing grant applications can seem overwhelming, especially when the future sustainability of your group is dependent on gaining funding support.

Our supportive Funding Officer, Claire Shaw, can help your organisation with every step of the funding application process, from carrying out funding searches to proofreading your application.
