Clan Cancer Support has opened applications for an exciting new choir, inviting anyone impacted by cancer to take part – whether they have experienced a diagnosis themselves or supported a loved one.
The choir will bring people together through music, offering a welcoming and supportive space to connect, build confidence and enjoy the shared experience of singing. No auditions are required, and all singing abilities are encouraged to apply.
Open to people across the north-east of Scotland, the choir welcomes anyone affected by cancer, regardless of whether they have accessed Clan’s services.
Rehearsals will take place weekly at Clan House in Aberdeen from August, with members working towards a performance in March 2027, as well as singing at other Clan events throughout the year.
Leading the choir will be experienced musician and choirmaster Laura Kirkwood, who brings a strong passion for community music and a personal connection to Clan.
Laura said, “I’ve previously been involved in community choirs and have seen first-hand the joy, togetherness and confidence they can build.
“What especially drew me to Clan was my own personal connection. My grandfather stayed at Clan House while undergoing treatment last year, and the support meant so much to us as a family.
“Being part of something that brings people together through music, with that shared understanding, feels incredibly special.”
Following her grandfather’s passing, Laura also completed a 100-mile walking challenge in his memory, raising more than £800 for Clan.
The choir will be open to singers of all backgrounds, from beginners to those with previous experience. Participants will be supported to find their voice and build a varied repertoire ahead of the March performance, which will also showcase additional local talent.

“Before Covid, Clan ran a successful singing group that was enjoyed by many people, and it’s brilliant to see this being resurrected and reimagined for a new audience.
“We know that cancer affects every aspect of life, and opportunities like this can make a real difference by bringing people together and boosting wellbeing, while offering a supportive environment through Clan.”

Clan is now inviting people across the north-east to apply and be part of the new choir.
Applications are now open until Friday 14 August to anyone aged 18+ impacted by cancer. An information session is planned for August for those interested in taking part.
