This month we put a spotlight on MindLink – an organisation which has grown into a multi-language service supporting individuals across different backgrounds and experiences in Aberdeen. In this feature article, Clinal Lead Magda and Operations Manager Magdalena share the importance of accessible mental health support as they mark their one year milestone as a registered charitable organisation.

We also highlight volunteers from Instant Neighbour as part of our Why I Volunteer in Aberdeen film series. Ken and Kimberley chat through their inspirations, experiences and motivations behind volunteering, offering a personal insight into the impact that volunteering can have on the organisation itself and those giving their time.

We’re also pleased to be launching our brand new ACVO Insights podcast! In the first episode, Policy and Consultations Officer Alasdair Ross, in conversation with Communications Officer Andrew Davidson, explores what “community empowerment” really means and the growing pressure on the third sector to deliver essential services in a challenging funding environment.

Finally, the ACVO Team say farewell to Gette Cobban who retires from her role as Senior Development Officer (The Promise). After joining the team in May 2023, and a career spanning over 20 years in the third sector, we thank Gette for all her contributions supporting children, young people and families, as well as strengthening practice across services. She leaves with our very best wishes and will be greatly missed here at ACVO!

Other highlights from May’s ACVO News include:

  • Aberdeen Arts Centre announce Laura Main as patron to help support the grassroots arts venue during their ongoing fundraising campaign.
  • Gathimba Edwards Foundation establish a new Fundraising Advisory Board to support their long-term fundraising strategy as demand for services grows.
  • Friends of Seaton Park mark their 10th CakeFest event, bringing the community together through baking, socialising and fundraising for the park.

We hope you enjoy this month’s edition and, as always, thank you for everything you do to support communities across Aberdeen. ACVO News is your platform to celebrate the people, projects and partnerships making a difference in Aberdeen. If your organisation has news to share, we’d love to hear from you!
