Connecting, Learning and Recognising at the Fairer Aberdeen Fund Showcase

words by Emily Shepherd, Digital Media Assistant, ACVO TSI

I was delighted to attend this years’ Fairer Aberdeen Fund Showcase at Aberdeen Town House on Monday 23rd February - an event that brought to life the scale and significant impact of tackling deprivation in our city.

Reading time: 3 minutes

The showcase was the perfect opportunity to hear directly from organisations delivering invaluable support across Aberdeen’s communities. It was great to catch-up with fellow third sector colleagues, make new connections and, most importantly, learn about the vital, collective work being done to reduce poverty and inequalities.

On the day, I learned that the Fairer Aberdeen Fund has supported 52,120 people through 36 projects across Aberdeen City in 2024-25. I was amazed to hear this statistic, knowing that such a significant number of individuals have been supported by the out-standing £1.5m investment of the Fund.

The event also involved presentations from St Machar Credit Union, Aberdeen Science Centre, North East Sensory Services and Pathways – each highlighted the diverse and practical ways that their funding has helped tackle poverty and deprivation.

From financial inclusion and employability support, to specialist services and innovative projects like The Science of Mental Health and Wellbeing workshops, the breadth of impact was truly inspiring to see.

Short films produced by shmu added another dimension to the day, showcasing these projects in action and sharing the voices of those directly benefitting. As someone who works in digital media, it’s always inspiring to watch real stories shown through films like these, and to hear local people share how their lives have been positively changed.

ACVO is proud to be involved with the Fund as part of the Fairer Aberdeen Board alongside Aberdeen City Council, Aberdeen Health & Social Care Partnership, Police Scotland and community representatives from priority neighbourhoods.

Well done to everyone involved in organising and delivering an uplifting event. As always, the showcase was a reminder of what can be achieved when we work together as a collective – sharing an important commitment in striving towards a fairer Aberdeen for everyone.
