About the project
Having a child who is going through a cancer treatment can be a lonely experience as it is difficult to express feelings and emotions in a way that others can relate to. Camaraderie within the hospital wards has always been of benefit to families who are going through something similar. Due to strict covid restrictions and high-risk individuals it was not possible for families and carers to meet or mix. This has led to diminished mental wellbeing and increased feelings of isolation. We plan to offer an activity/experience for the parents/carers away from the hospital wards. This is to give them a few hours respite and to allow them to mix with limited number of people who are going through a similar situation.
Type of initiative funded: Peer Support
Key priority area: Social isolation and loneliness
Funding awarded: £2000
