Part time – 3 hours per week, worked on Friday mornings; plus an additional 12 hours per year for planning; support and supervision; appraisal; and training

Purposes of the job:

  • To support the planning and delivery of Home-Start Aberdeen’s Rising Stars family group
  • To take a strength-based and family centred approach at all times with the aim of increasing parents’ knowledge, skills and confidence, and achieving positive outcomes for children

Main Responsibilities:

Supporting Delivery of Rising Stars Sessions:

  • Resource and set up the group activity before session starts, as directed by Group Coordinator
  • Contribute to the delivery of sessions as directed by Group Coordinator. This will include leading a core activity at each session, either story, song or activity
  • Be aware of the aims of each session and actively contribute to ensure these are achieved as directed by Group Coordinator
  • Take responsibility for organising additional resources or different venues for sessions, as agreed with the Group Coordinator
  • Sign off risk assessment prior to the start of every session. Where the session is taking place at a different location, read, understand and act upon the risk assessment (completed by Group Coordinator)
  • Arrange reimbursement of bus fares for families, following the agreed procedure
  • Buy items and arrange anything specific for sessions, (eg. arts/craft materials, food) as directed by the Family Group Coordinator
  • Complete the attendance sheet at each session and upload information to Charity Log at the end of each session
  • Take shared responsibility for cleaning and tidying resources at the end of each session

Supporting Families Attending Rising Stars:

  • Keep all information regarding children and parents confidential at all times.
  • Actively contribute to providing for the safety and well-being of the children, ensuring that children are treated sensitively and with respect.
  • Actively encourage and support involvement in play sessions by interacting, encouraging and supporting children and their parents, modelling good parenting practices.
  • Understand the needs of children and ensure good safeguarding practice.
  • Maintain a healthy, safe and secure working environment.
  • Understand, and be sensitive to, cultural and religious diversity
  • Promptly share feedback from families with Group Coordinator and the wider staff team
  • Promptly report any concerns regarding a child to Group Coordinator or, if that person is not available, to another member of the staff team
  • Group Planning and Development:
  • Contribute to the development of session plans by participating in planning meetings
  • Attend quarterly project review meetings as requested by Family Group Coordinator, Team Leader and Chief Executive, and contribute to discussions around the effectiveness and performance of the group in terms of achieving its stated outcomes
  • When on holiday, ensure individual session responsibilities are covered by liaising with the member of staff attending the session(s)

Training and Personal Development:

  • Undertake relevant training
  • Attend regular support and supervision sessions (three per year) and annual appraisal with Group Coordinator

General:

  • Contributing to the effective day to day operation of the scheme in accordance with the Home-Start Memorandum & Articles of Association, Home-Start Standards & Methods of Practice, Home-Start Agreement and Quality Assurance Standards
  • Maintaining high standards of practice in supporting families within the Home-Start model.
  • Maintaining equality of opportunity, fairness and diversity in all areas of work
  • Implementing good safeguarding practice and working within the context of Home-Start Aberdeen’s Child Protection Policies and Procedures, and GIRFEC principles and values
  • Adhering to Home-Start Aberdeen’s policies and practice and demonstrating the values of the organisation at all times: The Child at the Centre

The post holder will be required to:

  • Work as a member of a team
  • Work in a flexible manner
  • Undertake appropriate training
  • Work to targets set in supervision
  • Undertake any other duties that fall within the nature of the role and responsibilities of the post as detailed above
