Sport Aberdeen’s Positive Adventures is a targeted programme aims to support up to 20 adults who are at risk of problematic substance use. Working in partnership with Alcohol and Drugs Action, who will refer clients that they are supporting onto the programme, the activities will be delivered by Sport Aberdeen Adventure Aberdeen Team, with participants experiencing 3 outdoor activities and being given gym membership to improve their mental and physical health.
Adventure Aberdeen instructors will support the participants to enjoy and benefit from outdoor experiences within Aberdeen. They will take part in a wilderness skills / nature walk session, a canoeing and stand up paddle boarding session at Rubislaw Quarry and a Coasteering session at the cliffs of Cove.
These experiences will help to support the participants by improving their confidence and self esteem, giving new experiences and challenges that can be overcome, team working skills and support their physical and mental health. Importantly the sessions will be fun.
Participants will receive a free Sport Aberdeen Get Active 2 membership to continue their journey.
This will allow them to participate in physical activities such as the gym, swimming and fitness classes to keep physically heathy and improve their mental health. As part of the membership they will be able to get support from gym instructors and be given bespoke fitness programmes.
