Guardianship as a Criminal Disposal

Dr Daniel Bennett is a Consultant in Forensic Psychiatry based at the Royal Cornhill Hospital in Aberdeen. He is a double graduate of the University of Aberdeen and completed his clinical training in the North of Scotland Deanery.  He is currently the Lead for Undergraduate Teaching in Psychiatry at the University and responsible for postgraduate training in psychiatry as an Associate Postgraduate Dean.

He has a number of research interests in the fields of electro-convulsive therapy, medical education and forensic psychiatry. At present, Daniel is pursuing projects relating to the use of mental health legislation across various jurisdictions and leading a project examining the use of appeals against excessive security, which is a uniquely Scottish provision of mental health law.

Through his clinical work, he has by happenstance developed an interest in the use of Guardianship as a criminal disposal.  He will present the legal framework, statistical information, clinical examples and will discuss the current review of mental health legislation in Scotland.
