SUMMARY:Aberdeen Third Sector Communications and Media Network
DESCRIPTION:Join us for the first Aberdeen Third Sector Communications and Media Network session of 2026\, with Craig Walker\, Editor of The Press and Journal and Evening Express\, and Ben Hendry\, City and Shire Team Leader at The Press and Journal. The forum is open to anyone working in Aberdeen’s third sector who supports communications\, storytelling\, media\, marketing or social media within their organisation\, with the aim of this becoming a regular network for people in similar roles to connect and share ideas. \n\n\nThis relaxed afternoon event will bring together people working in – or supporting – communications\, media\, storytelling and social media across Aberdeen’s third sector. \nIt’s an opportunity to hear directly from senior journalists working in local media\, pick up practical tips on sharing your organisation’s stories with the press\, and connect with others doing similar work across charities\, community groups and voluntary organisations in the city. \n**Booking note \nPlease note we are limiting bookings to a maximum of two people per organisation to allow as many organisations as possible to take part. \nGuest Speakers: Craig Walker and Ben Hendry \nCraig Walker – Editor\, The Press and Journal and Evening Express \nWe’re pleased to welcome Craig Walker\, Editor of The Press and Journal and Evening Express\, who leads the editorial direction of both titles across Aberdeen and the North East. \nCraig has spent two decades working in the Aberdeen newsroom and previously served as editor of the Evening Express before taking on his current role overseeing both publications. His work focuses on ensuring strong local journalism continues to serve communities across the region while developing the titles across both print and digital platforms. \nBen Hendry – City and Shire Team Leader\, The Press and Journal \nJoining Craig will be Ben Hendry\, City and Shire Team Leader at The Press and Journal\, who leads coverage of Aberdeen and the North East. \nBen reports on everything from major council decisions and regeneration projects to the stories shaping communities and the people who live and work here. Over the course of his career with DC Thomson he has worked as a trainee reporter in Moray\, senior reporter in Aberdeen and assistant news editor before taking on his current leadership role. \nDuring the session\, Craig and Ben will share insights into how local media engages with communities\, including practical tips on: \n• Pitching stories to journalists \n• What makes a story stand out \n• How third sector organisations can better engage with local press \nThere will also be a short Q&A\, giving attendees the opportunity to ask questions and gain valuable insight from inside the newsroom. \nMeet and Connect \nAlongside the talk\, there will be time to meet and network with others working in communications across Aberdeen’s third sector. \nWhether you manage social media channels\, write press releases\, support fundraising storytelling\, or help share your organisation’s work online\, this is a great opportunity to exchange ideas\, learn from others and build useful connections. \nThis event is also the first in a series of Communications and Media Network sessions planned for 2026\, so it’s a great chance to get involved from the start. \nAbout the Network \nHosted by ACVO\, Aberdeen’s Third Sector Interface\, the Aberdeen Third Sector Communications and Media Network brings together people working in communications\, media\, marketing and digital roles across the local third sector. \nThe network provides a space where colleagues can learn from guest speakers\, share ideas and connect\, helping organisations to work more collaboratively to amplify the stories of Aberdeen’s communities. \nThe forum is open to anyone working in Aberdeen’s third sector who supports communications\, storytelling\, media\, marketing or social media within their organisation – whether that’s a dedicated communications role or part of a wider job such as fundraising\, development or project work. \nIf you have any questions about the event or the Aberdeen Third Sector Communications and Media Network\, please contact Andrew Davidson\, Communications Officer at ACVO\, at andrew.davidson@acvo.org.uk

SUMMARY:Dee to the Sea 2026: Fundraising Walk for Greyhope Bay
DESCRIPTION:Our second annual fundraising walk – 32km from Banchory\, along the Deeside Way\, finishing at Greyhope Bay\, Torry Battery\, Aberdeen. \nThis is more than just a walk—it’s a 32km adventure that makes a difference. \nCalling all nature lovers\, adventure seekers\, and charity supporters! Experience the breathtaking beauty of the river Dee on a walk that combines stunning scenery with a worthy cause. Following the success of Dee to the Sea 2025\, we’re excited to host this walk again in 2026. \nDee to the Sea is a sponsored walk which follows the river Dee as it meanders from Banchory all the way to the river’s mouth at Greyhope Bay\, Torry Battery\, Aberdeen. From woodland and farmland in rural Aberdeenshire to a bustling harbour city\, the Dee to the Sea will be a fun day out\, where you can enjoy beautiful local scenery while taking on a worthwhile challenge to benefit a local charity. \nRoute: 32km walk following the Deeside Way from Bellfield Park in Banchory to Duthie Park\, over the Wellington Suspension Bridge into Torry\, finishing up in Torry Battery. The route is primarily off road and has gradual gradients. At 32km long through stunning scenery\, the Dee to the Sea is a rewarding challenge for those with fitness or wellbeing goals. You can view the full route here. \nOur walk will take you through: tranquil watersides\, lush woodland paths\, stunning sea views. \nWith spring in the air (and hopefully in your step!)\, there will be so much to see and enjoy. Keep an eye out for wildlife as you walk\, including birds\, otters\, seals\, and hopefully even dolphins once you reach the sea. \nRegistration for Dee to the Sea will begin at 08:00. All participants must register to check-in. The walk will begin at 09:00. \nFollowing your feedback from the first year\, we are offering one-way transport from Torry to the start point in Bellfield Park\, Banchory if you would like that. Please book your coach tickets at the time of booking. The coach will pick up in Torry at 07:30. There are limited spaces for well-behaved dogs onboard so please contact us directly if you would like to bring your dog on the coach. \nAbout Greyhope Bay & fundraising \nBy taking part in Dee to the Sea\, you’re supporting a local charity making a positive difference in Aberdeen. The ticket sales and funds you raise allow us to continue connecting people to the coastline and helping communities create change\, via talks\, walks\, our education programme\, the Greyhope Bay Centre and Cafe\, creative classes\, and more! \nThis year\, we are aiming to raise at least £7\,500 to help fund our community programme. We are happy to announce we have a prize for the individual\, and the team\, who raises the most funds: \n\n\n\n\nThe prize for the individual who raises the most is a voucher for a return trip on any NorthLink Ferries round trip for two passengers\, a car\, and a cabin on overnight routes.\nThe team who raises the most money will receive a £200 gift voucher for Wild Goose in Aberdeen!\n\nTo be eligible for the prize\, you need to click ‘start fundraising’ on our Dee to the Sea 2026 Campaign – this allows us to keep track of how much individuals\, and teams\, have raised. If your campaign is not linked to our Dee to the Sea 2026 Campaign you will not be eligible as we will not be able to easily see who is raising funds for our campaign. If you have any issues linking your fundraising page\, get in touch with us on hello@greyhopebay.com \nDee to the Sea Just Giving Campaign: https://www.justgiving.com/campaign/deetothesea26
