DESCRIPTION:This online session\, ‘Understanding Emotions and Anger\, introduces how emotions work\, with a focus on primary and secondary emotions\, the difference between what we feel and what we show\, and how anger develops through its cycle of trigger\, escalation\, release\, de-escalation\, and resolution. It explores anger as a normal human emotion and builds self-awareness\, offering practical tools to help identify and regulate emotions more effectively. By attending\, you’ll learn to recognise different types of emotions and where anger fits within them\, reflect on your own triggers and what may sit beneath them\, understand the anger cycle\, and develop strategies for managing and responding to emotions in a more constructive way. Delivered live on Zoom by an experienced SCCR trainer\, this introductory session requires no prior knowledge.

DESCRIPTION:To celebrate the opening of our new path connecting the Aberdeen Cycle Hub @ Seaton to the beachfront and making this crossing more accessible for all. Many thanks to Nestrans for funding this project. \n—– \nLed Ride | 10:30am – 12pm & 2:30pm – 4pm \nSport Aberdeen and Cycling UK in Aberdeen City are running some led rides as part of the Cycle Hub path opening event on 8th of July! \nThe rides will be short distance\, and going at the pace of the slowest rider. We will be leaving from the Aberdeen Cycle Hub @ Seaton\, and heading across the golf course on our new path and then along the beachfront. \nBikes\, e-bikes\, and accessible cycles can be provided as needed\, as well as helmets\, gloves\, etc. \nIf you have any questions about the ride\, or are interested in attending with a family group\, please email hbeaumont@sportaberdeen.co.uk \nFree BMX Sessions | 10am – 1pm \nTo celebrate the opening of the new path from Aberdeen Cycle Hub\, local BMX coach Ash Armstrong will be delivering free BMX sessions! \nAs part of our larger path opening event day\, we will be helping local BMX coach Ash Armstrong run three x 45 minute BMX sessions. \nSpaces are limited\, so please do not book on to more than one session. \nOne space per ticket (please reserve 1 ticket per person wishing to attend). \nParticipants should already be happy pedaling their bike\, we can work with them individually to adapt their level to the BMXs \nHelmets\, bikes\, and refreshments will be provided free of charge. \n—– \nThere will also be the opportunity to meet Sport Aberdeen mascots Dee and Don\, take part in an adapted cycling session\, enjoy a health walk and much more!

DESCRIPTION:Psychologists\, neuroscientists\, engineers and magicians will join forces at Aberdeen Art Gallery on Thursday 18 June for The Magic of the Mind\, a free public event exploring the mysteries of the human mind. \nThe event is the flagship event of a year-long programme celebrating the 130th anniversary of the School of Psychology at the University of Aberdeen. Founded in 1896\, Aberdeen is home to the oldest psychology department in the UK. In collaboration with the Institute of Medical Sciences\, the School of Engineering and the Aberdeen Magical Society\, The Magic of the Mind will bring together more than 60 researchers\, students and performers for one of the largest public engagement events ever organised by the University of Aberdeen. \nHighlights include: \n– Live magic performances throughout the evening by the Aberdeen Magical Society\, which is also celebrating its 100th anniversary this year.\n– Interactive robots from the School of Engineering\, including robots with distinct personalities and technologies developed to support stroke rehabilitation.\n– Immersive virtual reality experiences that alter perception and sense of self.\n– Human-AI interactions that test whether you can spot-a-bot.\n– Hands-on Ouija board demonstrations revealing the psychological forces behind their seemingly supernatural movements.\n– Mind-bending visual illusions that make people appear to shrink\, grow or defy perspective.\n– Live eyewitness identification experiments demonstrating how our memories can sometimes mislead us.\n– Real-time brain activity demonstrations (EEG) led by researchers from the Institute of Medical Sciences. \nThe Magic of the Mind is family friendly and free to attend\, but advance booking is required.
