ACVO Event – Governance & Finance: Are your ambitions achievable?

In-person event

Thinking about setting up a charity? Join us to hear more about the important questions to consider before taking the next step.

Charities are founded from a place of altruism; to address a social need, to keep a legacy alive, to give something back and to change the world are just some of the motivations behind this ambition. However, this isn’t a decision to be taken lightly. Scotland’s charity regulator, OSCR, reported last year that 743 charities were registered while 1130 were removed from the register. The report also shows that 53% of charities have an income of less than £25,000 and third of Scottish charities have an income below £5000. Also, 69% of charities employ no paid staff and are run entirely by volunteers, including the trustees. Running a charity is a significant responsibility and the funding landscape is tough with some funders reporting a 3000% increase in applications over the past 12-18 months.

Claire and Sandy want to use this session as an opportunity to discuss the challenges and opportunities, helping you to explore your motives and enabling you to make a well researched and informed decision. If setting up a new charity still feels like the right thing to do, then GO FOR IT and we’ll help you in any way we can. Alternatively, you may discover that there are many effective charities doing much good in the area you care about. You just need to look thoroughly to find the right one to offer your time and talents to.

*Tickets will go on sale on Saturday 15th March 2025 on Eventbrite*
