National Volunteers Week celebrates the millions of volunteers throughout the country who do so much good for our communities. It is a time to:
- Recognise the essential contribution volunteers make in our communities.
- Give special thanks and recognition to people who volunteer.
- Promote volunteering and inspire more people to get involved
This year Volunteers Week has been extended and will now start on the 1st June 2016 and last right through to the 12th June 2016 (to also coincide with the celebration of the Queen’s birthday and Her Majesty’s patronage of more than 600 charities).
There will be a range of events held across Aberdeen during Volunteers Week to recognise, celebrate and thank volunteers for the tremendous contribution people make volunteering.
The Lord Provost of Aberdeen City Cllr. George Adam is also planning on volunteering with a different organisation each of the 12 days of the extended Volunteers Week Scotland 2016 and local MSPs, MP’s and councillors are providing great support.
Joyce Duncan, Chief Executive at ACVO said “On behalf of all of the team at ACVO, I would like to thank everyone who has been involved in volunteering in the city throughout the year. Without your support, our work would be so much harder and less fun. You have brought fantastic skills and enthusiasm which have made a difference to the lives of many in the city. I urge you to continue to be involved in volunteering.”
Kevin Stewart MSP, Aberdeen Central and Minister for Local Government & Housing, added “Without the work of volunteers many of the day to day things that we often take for granted in Aberdeen just would not happen. I’d like to thank all those folk who give up their time to volunteer and would urge others to think about volunteering during this National Volunteers Week Scotland 2016.”
